Wes Edens was born on 30 October 1961 in the United States. He studied at Oregon State University where he was awarded a bachelor of science, finance degree. Wes Edens is a renowned businessman, sports team owner, and private equity investor. He began his career in California Savings and Loans, where he did not last for long before joining Smith Barney and Merrill Lynch. In the year 1987,he joined Lehman Brothers where he worked in the division of mortgage trading as a managing director and partner up to 1993. In the same year, he joined BlackRock and worked as the managing director and partner of the affiliate company of BlackRock, BlackRock Financial Management. In the affiliate company, Wes Edens established his first private equity fund called BlackRock Asset Investors. In 1997,he joined UBS and worked as the Managing Director of its affiliate.

Currently, he is the co-chairman, founder, and principle of Board of Directors of Fortress Investment Group Corporation. The investment group was found in 1998 as a management company of the alternative asset. The firm is worth $72 billion and has its headquarters in New York and other offices across the globe. Wes Edens is responsible for the private equity business of the Fortress, which mainly focuses on investing in infrastructure and transportation, media, healthcare, real estate and finance services. He is the co-owner of NBA franchise which is based I Milwaukee, Milwaukee Bucks, Wisconsin and Marc Lasry. He is also the owner of the League of Legends team FlyQuest and more

Fortress Investment Group announced in February 2017 that it had been acquired by SoftBank with an all-cash transaction of about $3.3 billion. After the acquisition, it would operate as an independent business entity under SoftBank Group. The deal was expected to finalize in the fourth quarter of the year 2017. It was reported that Wes Edens together with other co-founders would invest back half of the proceeds that they would get after tax from the funds of the company and continue leading the business.

On the side of giving back to the society, Wes Edens gives mainly to the field of education, health, and art-related cases. His notable lifetime gifts account for over $2.7 million, one is $1 million at Macalester College in 2011 to 2016, $700,000 at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital in 2006 to 2010, $200,000 at Give Well in 2008 to 2009 among other recipients.
