When Shiraz Boghani moved from Kenya to the UK in 1969, he had hoped to study accounting and pursue a career in finance. He acquired his CPA qualifications and initially worked at the Thomson McLintock & Co., the current KMPG. He made his debut in the hospitality industry when he jointly founded Sussex Health Care in 1985. The firm serves the elderly and has 18 homes with a 500-bed capacity.
In 1996, Shiraz extended his hospitality business in London by developing branded, limited services hotels. Boghani founded Splendid Hospitality Group in which he serves as the chairperson. The company has a chain of twenty hotels in the UK, with an over two thousand total bed capacity. It is one of fastest developing private hospitality companies in the UK.
Some of the hotels operated by the company are the 295 rooms Hilton London Bankside, Holiday Inn, Wembley with a 336-bed capacity, Conrad St. James, London that has a 256-bed capacity, and the Grand Hotel and Spa. Others are the Mercure Bistro Brigtow and the New Ellington Hotel located in Leeds that the firm acquired recently.
The Asian Business Award recognized and awarded Shiraz Boghani as the hotelier of the Year in 2016. He was awarded for his contribution to the growth of the hospitality industry and for exhibiting high-class leadership skills. While accepting the distinguished award, the exited Shiraz Boghani expressed pleasure in being part of the success story of Splendid Hospitality Group. He attributed the success to teamwork and dedication by the employees and the management of the firm.
The CEO of Splendid Hospitality Group, Stuart Bailey, praised Shiraz Boghani for his contribution in steering the firm to success. He was speaking at the Asian Business Award ceremony. Among the judges for the award were Amit Roy, a leading journalist, the executive editor of AMG, Shailesh Solanki and the managing director of AMG group, Kalpesh Solanki.
Shiraz Boghani is also the chairperson of Sojourn Hotels LLP, another hospitality firm that he co-founded in 2007.
Shiraz Boghani’s charity work includes his support to the Aga Khan Foundation as well as the development foundation operated by the Aga Khan. He has served as a convener of development resources for the foundation that supports needy members of the society. Shiraz is also active in the Ismaili Community charity activities. He once served as the member of the Ismaili National Council and chaired the Reconciliation and Arbitration National Board.
