A Look At OSI Group’s Recent Expansion

OSI Group, LLC, is a privately held company that is headquartered in Illinois. They are one of the largest global suppliers of processed food in the world. Founded in 1909, for the first 50 years the company was focused on supplying processed meat to restaurants such as McDonald’s Corporation. Today the company supplies a wide range of products to both restaurants and private grocery store brands which, in addition to processed meat, also includes such food as vegetables, fruit, fish, marinades, sauces, condiments, and dressings.

Under the leadership of the Chief Executive Officer Sheldon Lavin, OSI Group has greatly expanded its presence, especially in Europe and Asia. In the last year they acquired two companies in the European market, the Netherland’s Baho Food and the UK company Flagship Europe. These purchases helped OSI Group reach more countries in the region as well as expanding what types of processed foods they supply.

In order to meet burgeoning demand, OSI Group has also been expanding the number of food processing plants it operates. Tyson Foods has had a plant in Chicago for many years and was in the process of closing it down and laying off all of the employees. In June 2016, OSI Group announced that they were purchasing the plant for $7.4 million. The employees at the plant were very happy as most of them were offered continued employment at the food processing plant by OSI Group. The plant has 200,000 square feet of space and is close to other OSI Group plants in the area.

As a global company, OSI Group has over 60 plants and offices located in 16 countries around the world. With an annual revenue of $6.1 billion, it is the 58th largest private company in the United States. It also provides employment opportunities to more than 20,000 people.
