The benefits gained from taking one hour to observe silent introspection each day has inspired Eswaran to author a management book, In the Sphere of Silence, detailing how doing so has sharpened his mind and made him a better, more productive businessman.

Eswaran’s belief in the power of silence reflection is rooted in his childhood where he learned traditional Hindu meditation from his grandfather. Incorporating these tenets into his daily life has helped him to grow his business in a successful venture with 700 million dollars in sales.

Sharing his philosophy through his book has garnered Eswaren the position of spiritual guru to other CEO’s who have adopted the same principles. These include increase your listening, thinking before you decide to speak, and make to do list to make success goal oriented.

Eswaran says the best time to observe the hour of silence is between 4:30 and 6 am and that the hour of silence should be structured into 5 parts. The first of these center on reflection of the previous day and what could be done to make it better. The second part is for writing down what needs to be accomplished today.

The third part sets goals for the next week, year and 5 years. These goals are to be rewritten daily. The fourth part is for reading something new that provides some benefit and summarizing it. The fifth part is for connecting with your god in the way that is best for you and summarizing it.

Eswaran states that following this pattern for 21 days will make it habit. The silent reflection will also make you a better version of yourself because the structure that it provides helps to focus your time and energy on the accomplishing goals. This better version of yourself also makes you better in business.

Eswaran’s book, In the Sphere of Silence, has had modest success in southeast Asia and is now available in the US.
